The automated soil measurement challenge

by VfL Bochum 1848 GmbH & Co. KGaA

The installation of sensors for the automatic control of the soil condition of the training and playing fields. Depending on the result, the system should independently initiate actions such as watering or heating the soil by activating the lawn heater to ensure optimum soil conditions.

A constant control of the soil condition of our playing fields is a prerequisite for ensuring that the grass is in good condition at all times and that our players find ideal training and playing conditions. In addition, optimal maintenance reduces downtime, costs for replanting and the risk of injury to the players.
We are looking for a solution that automatically measures the condition of the soil and, depending on its condition, automatically activates countermeasures such as automatic watering. It would be desirable if the solution could also calculate the optimum amount of water and water it until the soil has the ideal moisture again. The solution should also be controllable via smartphones in order to be informed at all times about the status and the initiated measures.
